Chestnut

The chestnut is the fruit of the chestnut tree. It is inside a woody sheath that has thorns on the outside and opens when the fruits are ripe. Depending on the species, inside the casing there are usually 2-3 fruits, or even just one. Fresh chestnuts contain 50% water, 45% carbohydrates and 5% vegetable oil. They are eaten raw, roasted or boiled, used in confectionery and cooking and are also made into flour. The variety cultivated in our area is the European Chestnut (Castanea Sativa), a fast-growing tree that reaches 30 meters in height. Its leaves are serrated and large and thrives at an altitude of 800-1,000 m. The maximum yield is considered to be the 50th-60th year of its age.

Actinium

Kiwi is a shrub with red or white flowers. Its leaves are oval in shape and have fluff on the bottom. Its fruit is a rail and is edible, with a sweet and sour taste. Its outer part is brown and the inside is juicy, with green color and small black seeds. The name Kiwi comes from the bird of the same name, which is the national symbol of New Zealand, where it lives exclusively. The kiwi got its name from the horticulturist Hayward Wright (1873-1959), who experimented with the plants and managed to create the variety that is known today, and it is also the variety that is grown in our area.
